Typical allergy seasons are spring or fall but allergies can happen any time of the year! Here are some tips to help ease your suffering and if these don't help.....please call and make an appointment to see a provider at Student Health Services.

  • Try to limit your time outdoors.
  • Keep windows closed if possible.
  • Shower or rinse off at the end of the day (including your hair), before going to bed.  This will help prevent you getting pollen on your pillow and sheets.
  • There are multiple over the counter allergy medicines that can be used.   These include loratadine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec), fexofenadine (Allegra).  These are considered to be non or less sedating. Another allergy medicine that can be more sedating is diphenhydramine (benadryl).   Check the labels for side effects and dosing schedules. Fluticasone nasal spray (Flonase or Nasonex) is also very helpful for both nasal symptoms and eye allergy symptoms.
