Nosebleeds are most commonly caused by dry air or digital manipulation in the nose, better known as nose picking!  Most are not serious and are in the front part of the nose.  Follow these instructions if you have a nosebleed. Sit upright and lean forward slightly. Pinch both sides of the front lower part of your nose firmly with two fingers. Apply steady, but not painful, upward pressure for a ten full minutes. Remove your fingers and see if your nose bleeds again. If the bleeding has stopped, do not put anything in your nose or blow your nose for at least 12 hours.  This will help a scab form over where the bleeding was coming from.  If the bleeding does not stop after the ten minutes of pressure,  pack the bleeding nostril with cotton or gauze and call Student Health Services.   If it is after hours and we are closed and you continue with the nosebleed, please go to an urgent care center.
